Kaohsiung City - a few street scenes

A busy street corner with billboards for mayor and  city council candidates up for re-election.

Kaohsiung metro. At 2 pm the cars were almost deserted.  

On the other direction there were only 4 or 5 passengers as far as I could see.

Hotel Kingdom, where many of the Chen clan stayed during their visits to Kaohsiung.

Across the street from Hotel Kingdom is now a brand new Fullon Hotel. 

I had a plate of cut tomato (NT40) at a shop selling fruit juice and shaved ice.
What's special about these tomato, you may ask?
The secret is in the dipping sauce - a mixture of thick soy, powdered sugar, grated ginger,
and 甘草, a licorice root powder that brings a sweet flavor to the mixture,
and may be a few additional secret ingredients from the vendor.

A kind of Taiwanese orange only available in winter. 
The skins are very easy to peel, much like Spanish clementines, 
but they are larger than clementines.

From left to right, persimmon, 釋迦, and papaya. 
Yahoo translation says 釋迦 is custard apple, or sugar apple.
釋迦 was introduced to Taiwan 400 years ago by the Dutch people.
We saw 釋迦 on breakfast table last winter in Torremolinos in southern Spain.
