Theme: Come Together, Taiwanese Americans! |
Welcome to TAC/EC 2002 The Taiwanese American Conference/East Coast (TAC/EC) was first held in 1970 at Downingtown, Pennsylvania as a summer retreat for area Christian families. Over the years the conference program has expanded to encompass the cultural and socio-economic activities of the Taiwanese American community as well as issues related to human rights, environmental issues and current events in Taiwan. The number of participants has steadily grown, exceeding 2,000 in some years. TAC/EC draws participants mainly from New England, the Middle Atlantic States, Washington DC and Virginia. Well-known leaders active in religious, cultural and political fields in Taiwan are invited each year to participate as speakers. Since a vast majority of the Taiwanese Americans immigrated to the US as graduate students, the educational achievements of the conference participants are unusually high. Another unique feature of the conference is the wide age range of the participants; from infants to senior citizens. The second-generation Taiwanese Americans are well represented and the youth organize and manage their own programs. The conference provides an ideal occasion for old friends to meet and new friends to make. It enhances the cultural heritage of the Taiwanese American and also provides a forum for them to express their concerns about current and future development in Taiwan and Taiwanese Americans. Year 2002 is the 33rd Anniversary of TAC/EC. The conference will be held at University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA from July 4 to July 7, 2002. This year, the Taiwanese Association of America - Boston Chapter is organizing the conference. Boston Planning Committee was organized immediately after the conclusion of the 2001 conference. The committee, involving first and second generation TAA members, has been actively working since last August. We are determined to bring you the best possible programs and the most enjoyable time this summer in the beautiful setting of central Massachusetts.

With Taiwanese Americans growing up in an increasingly career-minded society, especially with the current economic climate, children as well as adults face more complex choices, challenges, and pressures in order to survive and excel in today’s environment. This trend is happening with younger people of all races across America. The fact is that Taiwanese Americans are already making an impact on American Society, but more can be done especially with a support infrastructure. Our conference aims to provide a start to that infrastructure through a program that develops individual values, skills, and knowledge that are useful in everyday life..... (see detail here) |
